Two hundred and forty upholstered dining chairs in a hotel function room, cleaned in place over three nights without moving them out of the building.

Fabric upholstery holds more than it looks: spilled wine, food, and years of hand contact on the back rail. Each chair was tested for colourfastness before anything was applied.

Method

Low-moisture encapsulation rather than wet extraction, because the frames are timber and prolonged damp would have been a problem. Chairs were usable again within two hours.

Outcome

The client had quoted for replacement at roughly forty times the cost of cleaning. The chairs went back into service and are now on an annual schedule.
